Questions concerning the shooting

When does the shooting day start?

Due to factors we can not control, we get to know the starting times on the evening before the shoot in 99 out of 100 times. As soon as we get the call sheet we begin to schedule the extras.

How do I get to the set?

Is the shooting place in Berlin or Potsdam, you are responsible on your own how to get to the set.
Can the shooting place not be reached with public transportation or is the beginning so early that public transportation is not running yet, we organize a shuttle (meeting point somewhere central in Berlin) that takes you there and back.

It always takes a long time until the shooting really starts – so I don’t really have to be on time, right?

Wrong! The exact shooting time and all the needed preparations can not be assumed neither by us nor by you, so being on time is crucial. Please plan commuting time exactly to be punctual.
To say it clear, something unexpected can happen to anyone anytime. We will discontinue working relations with extras being late notoriously very quickly. In this context we would like to point out that later no one will say „… extra Max Miller is late again…“ but extras from Agency Iris Müller are not working properly.

What shall I always bring with me?

In general it is always good to take your ID with you, all the documents needed for accounting in copy (for more details see questions concerning the payment). Something to read (the times between shootings can be very long), something to eat (usually there is catering, but you never know).

And what is not allowed on set?

There are actually some things definitely not allowed on set:
Cameras (most production companies react very displeased when someone tries to steal there intellectual property).
Valuables (unfortunately there is stealing here and there)
Friends, relatives, family (sets are closed working areas – people not belonging to team or extra crowd are forbidden).
Pets (see above).

How do I behave properly?

Sets are highly compressed working areas and time is money. For that reason there are some rules which shall ensure a trouble-free workflow for all parties included.
1. Please do not address crew or actors, they have to concentrate and work. Autograph wishes or joint pictures are not allowed!
2. Please (if possible) stay away from technical equipment and props.
3. Once again: NO filming or pictures taken on set!
4. And once again once more: No persons or animals which are not booked from us are allowed on set.

What about catering?

Catering is a matter of the production company. Please ask when we are booking you if catering for extras is included. This is usually the case but nevertheless you should take at least a snack with you because waiting time (for example in the catering line...) can be very long.

Please understand that crew and actors have to eat first for time reasons. It is not unusual that crew and actors get something better to eat. You might feel angry about that but than again: Isn't it nice that they care at all ...?

How long will the shooting day last?

This is the beloved question from every employee from every country around the world :-)
We don't know. We really don't know. The sun hides somewhere and the light is bad, the actor messes up very often and the cameraman likes to make another take: there are so many different factors which affect a shooting, that no one can estimate how long it will really last.
Consequently you should take the whole day off (and maybe half the night too).

Who is the contact person on set?

On every set there is an assistant director or production assistant who is responsible for you. You will get the name from that person when we give you time and place.

Do I get paid cash?

No. Some years ago this was the usual way. Meanwhile you will get the money transferred to an account of your choice. More details to your payment handling you will find at „questions concerning the payment“.
