synopsis

“The Countess” is based on the live and death of countess Erzebet Bathory (played by Julie Delpy), who lived in Slovakia in the 16th century. It is about endless youth, great romantic love and intrigues against one of the most powerful woman of her time. It is the time of burning of witches; torture was daily business. Legend has it that Bathory bathed in blood from virgins to get never ending youth. Was she really the monster, people think today? Or did the power-hungry enemies made this of her?
Julie Delpy holds herself to facts, but interprets them in a very personal way.
